No time to work out? Work or live in the Makati CBD? No problem.
Flexibility has always been one of my biggest fitness frustrations. While I grew up doing ballet and gymnastics, my flexibility has always been my fitness waterloo and has receded over time. Unknown to many, weight lifting can grow muscles, but can also make your reach shorter. In order to be physically fit, three components are essential: strength, endurance and flexibility.
As a financial advisor, professional singer and fitness blogger (among a myriad of passions), my schedule has always had its constraints. Just like you, time is a very important factor when choosing a fitness regimen. In conjunction with my strength training and cardiovascular activity, finding an activity that would improve my flexibility and not take too much time became important to me.
Situated in the center of the Makati Central Business District, I came across a Yoga studio that promised just that: to improve my flexibility through yoga, just by taking up an hour of my day. Yoga+ Plus Express Legazpi offers a selection of yoga classes not only for intermediate yogis but also for beginners.
What if I could not do the poses? Would this practice be too advanced for my flexibility level? What if I could not even complete the class?
While I was more than eager to try one of their yoga classes, I came to my first class not knowing what to expect. What if I could not do the poses? Would this practice be too advanced for my flexibility level? What if I could not even complete the class? These thoughts raced through my head as I stepped into the studio.
Entering the fitness center, there is a certain peace that overcomes you. Students hang and chat outside the yoga studio, and are very open to talk to just anyone. A number work around the Legazpi area, and attend the one-hour classes during their lunch break or free time. From beginner to intermediate yogis, you hear about their goals both inside and outside the yoga studio. For them, yoga has not only given them physical benefits, but also a certain mental clarity, which extends to their own personal and professional lives.
Yoga has also become a form of rehabilitation for some.
Yoga has also become a form of rehabilitation for some. Ian Paredes, General Manager of Yoga+ Express Legazpi started yoga as therapy for his spinal injury. The stretching and core strengthening exercises have been very beneficial, and I am at awe with his flexibility, warm disposition and commitment to the practice.
Patched on the wall is their 30-Day Yoga Challenge, where students keep track of their training. Impressively, most have shown promise and have been attending one (some even two or three) yoga class(es) a day.
The first Flow yoga class I attended was not as bad as I thought it would be. The instructor clearly explains the pose or movement, and even offers easier alternatives if you cannot perform the pose. I came out of this class drenched in sweat, but also very relaxed. It is not too tiring if you are always on the go, and it offers a great full body workout in just an hour.
Yoga+ Express Legazpi is perfect for anyone who wants a holistic fitness activity (mental and physical fitness). With its great atmosphere and amenities, it is definitely a go-to place for anyone on the go or specifically for those who live or work in the Makati area.
